(3/2021) While the Savoie region of France is mainly known for white wine, the small growers here also craft playful reds, like this wonderful one from Domaine Saint-Germain. Built from the Mondeuse grape, this lively, bright purple colored wine shows aromas of super fresh fruits and a pleasant touch of Brettanomyces. In the mouth there is plenty of energy on top, with a chewy texture and Dolcetto/Gamay-like notes of grapey, fresh red and blue fruits and subtle black minerality. This is fun and tasty, especially with spring themed dishes. Think morel mushroom pasta, lamb sausage or maybe even pepperoni pizza!
