In an age where most Beaujolais tasted like bubblegum, Jean Foillard made quite the ruckus by crafting wines with tremendous complexity, nuance and beauty. Despite their quality and popularity, these great Gamay are still priced very reasonably despite being snapped-up by connoisseurs who want the character of a great village level red Burgundy, but don't want to pay the $50 price to get it.
92/100 - Vinous. (07/2021) "Brilliant violet. Incisive, mineral-accented cherry and black raspberry aromas are complemented by suggestions of pungent flowers and allspice. Sappy and focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry and dark berry flavors that deepen slowly and become sweeter with air. The mineral note repeats on a very long, smooth finish shaped by fine-grained, even tannins. Drinking Window: 2022 - 2029."
