(6/2021) "O Clarete: O Tinto Perfeito" is an homage to the historic Claret style of Bordeaux, where big, thunderous grape varieties are treated gently to make a lighter, fresher iteration of red wine. Looking to make a delicious gastronomic wine that you can bring to just about any dinner table to pair with just about anything, Mateus Nicolau de Almeida has delivered in a big way. Utilizing traditional Portuguese varieties from the Douro Valley, including 15% white grapes, he has crafted a wine with bracing notes of blackberry, plum, dark cherry, fennel and a hint of mint. The energetic palate is highlighted by juicy acidity that allows for perfect pairing with a bevy of meats and vegetables. This is a great interpretation of the Douro Valley through an exciting new lens.
